Failsafe Program Bmw
On the way to work this morning my 530d started to hold gear when applying more right foot, shortly afterwards the 'Trans Failsafe Prog' error appeared. Limped it to work but I had to go over a speedbump to get into the work carpark, took it slow but the car is revving/slipping the clutch/transfer.I have had a quick scout around the net and others have had this fault for a faulty battery or alternator.

Would a weak battery cause the box to slip? I know it is electronically controlled. Also how do I read the codes to see which error it actually is? I don't have any plug and play code/fault readers as the car is a new addition but am guessing thats the only way? Hopefully its not a pup! Anyone local to Ipswich that might be able to help me out with a code reader please? Thanks in advance. Sitting here miserably expecting a large bill! Sorry for not replying sooner, it's been a busy week at work with silly long hours.
Therefore the car has sat on my drive untouched from where I recovered it to.Small update, started it yesterday and it worked very briefly. Enough to shut back and forth on the drive and then it died again. I'm not getting any fault codes though since they were cleared. Just a slipping clutch from OK to dead in a matter of seconds. The codes were:53 - Solenoid Valves / Supply Voltage54 - TCM/ECM to TP SensorI'm going to have a look under the car to see if its anything glaringly obvious but expect it to be in the garage next week for a pro to look over. Is that right.I have done well over a dozen faulty ZF's,including my own which was leaking fluid from the porous sump pan.I have replaced one GM box.I will reiterate,ZF boxes are UNreliable.Neither are great gearboxes tho.I think both Gearboxes have reliability problems partly to do with cars not getting any servicing done on the autoboxes earlier in the cars lifes due to BMWs stupid sealed for life policy on Autoboxes.I dont however think the ZF box is worse than the GM box in terms of reliability.
I appreciate you may have had to work on more faulty ZF boxed cars but that is down the fact that their are a lot more petrol engined variants of the E39 on the road with the ZF boxs than diesel engined cars that use the GM Box. Acme, a mate of mine had his 330D (GM box) repaired by a place in Gt Yarmouth so not a million miles from you.
Let me know if you want me to get their details. There used to be a place in Ipswich called MJS Transmissions, not sure if they are still about but might be worth a look.Gary, that would be handy thank you.I believe MJS are a normal garage but my mechanic freind has advised me of a specialist in Colchester that are supposed to be very good. Wouldn't hurt to talk to both though. For the other two, how about you take your playground bickering to another thread please. I am actually trying to diagnose the problems with my car here.
I don't care which box is stronger or who has the biggest willy. I think both Gearboxes have reliability problems partly to do with cars not getting any servicing done on the autoboxes earlier in the cars lifes due to BMWs stupid sealed for life policy on Autoboxes.I dont however think the ZF box is worse than the GM box in terms of reliability. I hope someone out there can point me in the right direction concerning a problem I had today with my BMW.Car: 2001 540iA (V8 automatic), 140k miles, all service up to date. Recent work included new oil separator and valve cover gaskets 300 miles ago (professionally installed).Problem: “Engine Failsafe Prog” warning light came on while I was driving today. I had only driven about 2 miles and by the time I heard the warning chime and looked down at the warning light, the car had stalled. I coasted into a parking lot and checked the owner’s manual. After reading that I need to “have the system checked by the BMW dealer,” I decided to crank it and at least pull it into a marked parking space. The car started but stalled almost immediately. I was able to get it to run long enough to park it and lock it up before getting a ride home, but I am trying to figure out if there is anything I can do with it before I give up and have it hauled to my indie mechanic.

There were no other symptoms or warning signs before the “Engine Failsafe” light and stall.I have a Bentley manual, Peake code reader, some mechanical knowledge and a decent set of tools. My plan is to go back to my car tomorrow, pull the codes to see if I can luck out and find something simple to fix. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or possible causes for this problem.Thank you. UPDATE:I went and retrieved my car this morning. Before starting it, I checked the oil and coolant (both were fine) then pulled the codes. The system shows two codes: Air Mass Sensor and Drive-by-Wire Throttle Control.
I started it and (gently) drive it 2 miles to my home. After stalling once when I first started it, it seemed to run fine for the short ride home.So now my question is: Can anyone tell me what I am looking at here? I was busy with other stuff all day but plan to dig into my Bentley manual tonight to find out what I will need to do to get my E39 back on the road (and to determine if I can do “it” myself). One last thing: I think I noticed the throttle response was a bit slow the past several days.

In light of the codes I am getting, I am wondering if the poor throttle response was a tip that the throttle control was getting ready to fail. Thanks again for any comments/suggestions. Weather clock 4 5 keygen generator free. What I would try is look for any air leaks using brake clean while the engine is running spray all the intake areas front and back could have a hose off or have a hole in one causing a very lean condition. Next I would while the engine is running try to pull the oil cap off it should have a slight resistance from the crankcase system working properly if it requires a lot of effort then your new crankcase system has a problem. Last try to unplug the mass airflow sensor and see how the car runs.

That will tell you if the MAF is bad. Hope this helps!
