The 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis comes with a preprogrammed keyless-entry code from the factory. The vehicle does allow you to program an additional custom code. If you are worried that someone knows your code, or if you have forgotten it, you can reset the custom code by clearing it out and programming a new custom code. If you cannot find it, you'll need to visit a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealer to have the dealer retrieve it for you.2 Close the driver-side door and stand in front of it, near the keyless-entry pad.

Enter your factory-reset code on the door pad. Press the '1-2' button within 5 seconds of inputting the code.3 Push and hold the '1-2' button for about two seconds, or until the Grand Marquis' doors lock and unlock. This erases the previous code. You can now program a new code.4 Input the factory-reset code on the pad again. Push the '1-2' button within 5 seconds of inputting the code.5 Input the five-digit code that you want to use. This is your new custom code.
